Internship Guidelines for Students

Various internships are available with theatre and film companies, talent agencies, production companies, casting agencies, etc.  Internships can be taken for either Elective or Advanced Professional Training credits depending on the number of hours worked per week (agreed upon at the internship site).  For each credit, the student must work a minimum of 3 hours per week for the regular semester.  Freshman and Sophomores may only receive 2 elective credits for their internship, while upper class students and those taking a summer internship may receive up to 8 credits, either electives or professional training.

To register for an internship please complete the following steps:

  1. The internship listing and job descriptions are available online by clicking the Drama Internship Sites link under the Related Links section of this page.  You must obtain a password from Lee Gundersheimer to use this feature.  Please refer to this site first, then make an appointment with Lee Gundersheimer.
  2. Write up an internship proposal, and prepare a professional resume and cover letter detailing your work experience.
  3. Email or fax your information to the internship sites and set up meetings/interviews.
  4. If you are interested in an unlisted opportunity, arrange for the prospective sponsor to complete the Internship Sponsor Application form to be submitted online and approved before registration.
  5. Once you have arranged for an internship, and your proposal is filed, Lee will grant you an access code so you may register.

Additional Requirements

Interns are required to meet weekly with the site advisor, and write a final evaluation paper. You must also sign and return your internship contract before or during the first week of your internship in order to receive credit!
