Biography
Areas: U.S. theatre history, 19th-21st century U.S. drama, performance, gender theory, solo performance. Author: Act Like a Man: Challenging Masculinities in Americn Drama (1995), Tony Kushner in Conversation (1998), From Inner Worlds to Outer Space: The Multimedia Performances of Dan Kwong (2004). Coeditor with Una Chaudhuri, Critical Performances series at U of Michigan Press. Coeditor with Ted Ziter, Performance Reviews, Theatre Journal. Editorial Board member, Triangulations series (U of Michigan Press) and The Journal of American Theatre and Drama. President of the American Theatre and Drama Society (1999-2002). Numerous writings in critical anthologies and journals, including Theatre Journal, The Minnesota Review, The Eugene O’Neill Review, Performing America: Cultural Nationalism in American Theatre, Whiteness: A Critical Reader. Professor Vorlicky has received fellowships from the NEH, Fulbright Foundation, Karolyi Foundation in Creative Writing, Wisconsin Arts Board Grand for Playwriting, and Senior Research Fellowships from Tisch School of the Arts. Affiliate Faculty of the Department of English and the Program in Gender and Sexuality. Dr. Vorlicky has been a nominee for the NYU Distinguished Teaching Award.
