An overview of American theatre history along the world's most famous street from 1904 to the present. Focus will be on major artists and producers, important artistic and economic trends, as well as the current state of commercial theatre in New York. Readings will be from influential plays, memoirs and musicals, supplemented by film, video and recordings. Field trips and guest speakers will be included.
