This studio concentrates on techniques for creating character, refining it for the camera, and then collaborating with a television director to perform the script in a professional television setting. Three mornings a week are spent refining the actor’s technical craft; two mornings a week the actors form a company with Film and Television Department directors for an intensive to experience staging and shooting scene work. The class clarifies the director’s challenge for the actor. The students learn how to adjust to the demands and limitations of working in various genres where time and technical challenges often seem at odds with quality performance. The studio hours include production time. Drama Instructor Kay Matschullat leads the foundational work with acting and text analysis; James Gardner, Director of the Television Department leads the television studio work; Per Brahe teaches mask; Richard Crawford teaches LeCoq technique that fuses the body with the imagination; John Van Wyden teaches accents and dialects; and Arthur Bartow teaches comedy.
