Designed to teach actors how to manage their careers and lives in order to survive independently and economically as working artists. The underlying focus of the course is demystification of the business of acting by approaching it from a political, psychological, and economic point of view. Learning to separate the business and the creative side of acting, students develop a knowledge of how to get these two aspects to work together. Some of the areas covered are: pictures, résumés, postcards, mailings and follow-up, interviews, auditions, agents, casting directors, managers, answering services, unions, information publications, regional theatre, and goal setting. Guest lecturers from the profession. Attendance, writing, and presentations required.
