Biography

Areas: Asian theatre and performance theory, American and European 20th century avant-garde theatre theory, history, and practice, dramaturgy and translation. Dr. Gillitt is a translator of Indonesian plays into English. Her recent translation work, as editor and translator, is The Lontar Anthology of Indonesian Drama Vol.3: New Directions 1965-1988 (Lontar Foundation 2010). Her scholarly work on contemporary Indonesian theatre has appeared in Antigone on the Contemporary World Stage (Oxford University Press, 2011), The Senses in Performance (Routledge, 2006) and in several encyclopedias including The Oxford Encyclopedia of Theatre and Performance (2003), The Columbia Encyclopedia of Modern Drama (2007), The Encyclopedia of Asian Theatre (Greenwood Press, 2008), and the forthcoming Cambridge World Encyclopedia of Actors and Acting. Other publications include essays in j! ournals such as The Asian Theatre Journal, The Drama Review, and Theatre Survey. She has served on the Board of Directors as the Independent Scholars Subcommittee Chair, Performance Studies International (PSi) (2007-10), the Advisory Board for Educational Programming, Pentacle (2006-10) and has been a member of the Translation Committee of PEN America Center since 2011. She has been a member of Jakarta-based Teater Mandiri since 1988, performing in Indonesia and internationally.
