Professor of Drama and English. Faculty of Arts and Science. B.A., M.A., Delhi (India); M.Phil., Ph.D. Columbia. Areas: Theatre semiotics, drama theory, multiculturalism. Formerly Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of English at New York University. Author of No Man’s Stage: A Semiotic Study of Jean Genet’s Major Plays (1986), Staging Place: The Geography of Modern Drama (1995), and numerous articles in critical anthologies and journals including Modern Drama, Theatre Journal, and Theatre. Guest Editor of special issue of Theatre on "Theatre and Ecology." Winner of New York University’s Distinguished Teaching Medal, 1994.
